Henry Kissinger (1923–2023) was an American political scientist and diplomat who served as United States Secretary of State and National Security Adviser under the presidential administrations of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, and also as adviser for several other presidents. In 1973, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, and he also received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Medal of Liberty. Kissinger taught History and Political Science at Harvard University for twenty years, and wrote several books on foreign policy and diplomacy.
