Frank Salmon is Associate Professor of the History of Art at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of St John's College, Cambridge (having served as President of the College 2015-19).  

Since 2021 he has been Director of the Ax:son Johnson Centre for the Study of Classical Architecture at Cambridge.  He is an architectural historian specialising in British and European architecture of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Among his many publications are the book  Building on Ruins: The Rediscovery of Rome and English Architecture (winner of prizes in both the UK and USA) and the edited volume  The Persistence of the Classical.  His most recent article is about James Gibbs's design for the Senate House at Cambridge, and he is currently at work editing volumes on  Royalty and Architecture for Stolpe and Charles Barry's great London  Reform Club (publisher yet to be established) as well as writing his own book on Italianate architecture in Victorian Britain (probably Yale University Press).
