Charles S. Maier

Charles Maier is the Leverett Saltonstall Professor Emeritus of History at Harvard University. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society. He has been awarded the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Cross of Honour for Science and Art (first class) by the Republic of Austria. Maier’s many publications include Once Within Borders: Territories of Power, Wealth, and Belonging since 1500.
