Stefan Eklöf Amirel

Stefan Eklöf Amirell is a professor of global history at Linnaeus University, Sweden, and the director of the Linnaeus University Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies.
His research interests include comparative colonial history and cross-cultural diplomacy in Southeast Asia. Amirell is the author of Pirates of Empire: Colonisation and Maritime Violence in Southeast Asia (2019) and several articles and book chapters on global and colonial history. From 2021 to 2027, he leads the research environment Historical Treaties of Southeast Asia, financed by the Swedish Research Council (dnr 2020-03796), which gathers seven researchers based in Europe and Southeast Asia.
