Adam Zagajewski, one of Poland’s most important poets, was born in 1945 in Lviv and together with his family was forcibly displaced to Gliwice, Poland. His essay ‘East in West’ is an early precursor to his better known book Two Cities from 1991. He died in 2021 in Krakow.
