Alfred Döblin
Author, Author
Alfred Döblin (1878–1952) was a neurologist and novelist. He left Berlin in late September 1924 to research his Jewish roots in Poland, completing his journey in late November that year. The trip was triggered by anti-Semitic riots in Berlin’s Scheunenviertel district and was a deeply personal reckoning with Judaism. Döblin’s book Journey to Poland was published in Berlin in 1926.
