Benjamin F. Shambaugh (1871–1940) was an American historian, and professor of political science at the University of Iowa.
He was later made founding chair of the Department of Political Science. He coined the term ‘applied history’ in 1909, which he defined as the use of scientific knowledge of history to solve present issues.
