Cathrine Mellander Backman

Cathrine Mellander Backman has a PhD in the history of art specialising in architectural history. She has worked for more than a decade as an investigator and antiquarian in the Cultural Environment Department at the Swedish National Heritage Board specialising in the conservation and restoration of the built cultural heritage, specifically listed buildings and churches. In an international context, she frequently works with issues involving conflicting cultural heritages and is also part of an international group of experts focused on conserving 20th-century architecture. She regularly takes part in different forums related to the built environment and has written a number of reports and articles in her core areas: architectural history and cultural environments. She is a member of the editorial board of ‘The Nordic Journal of Settlement History and Built Heritage’ and is currently involved in a research project on Swedish postmodernism.
