Charly Salonius-Pasternak is a senior research fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs, Helsinki, where his primary areas of research are foreign, security and defence policy.

He has been a commentator for TV and radio in several countries, and was previously an international affairs adviser to the Plans and Policy Unit of Defence Command, Finnish Defence Forces, and a visiting lecturer at Tufts University, Boston.
