David Abulafia

David Abulafia is Professor Emeritus of Mediterranean History at Cambridge University and a Fellow of Gonville and Caius College. He is a Fellow of the British Academy, a Member of Academia Europaea, a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, and Visiting Beacon Professor at the University of Gibraltar. He is President of the Pharos Foundation, supporting advanced research in the humanities. His books include The Great Sea: A Human History of the Mediterranean (2011), winner of the British Academy Medal, and The Boundless Sea: A Human History of the Oceans (2019), winner of the Wolfson History Prize. He was appointed Commendatore dell’Ordine della Stella by the President of Italy in 2003.
