Galen Strawson

Galen Strawson holds the President’s Chair in Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin.

He taught at the University of Oxford from 1979–2000, and at Reading University from 2001–13. From 2004 to 2007 he was distinguished professor of philosophy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. His publications include Freedom and Belief (1986, 2nd edn. 2009), The Secret Connexion: Realism, Causation, and David Hume (1989, 2nd edn. 2014), Mental Reality (1994, 2nd edn. 2009), Selves: An Essay in Revisionary Metaphysics (2009), The Evident Connexion: Hume on Personal Identity (2011), Locke on Personal Identity: Consciousness and Concernment (2011), The Subject of Experience (2017), and Things That Bother Me (2018). He has held visiting positions at the Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University, New York University, Rutgers University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton University and the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris.
