Dr Hanne Loreck studied visual communication, art theory, philosophy, and German literature and has been Professor of Art Theory and Culture and Gender Studies at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg since 2004, where she also held an appointment as Vice-President from 2006 to 2019. She publishes on recent art positions, art and media history of the 20thcentury, on fashion and culture theory focusing visuality, imagery, and surfaces. She recently edited Mapping (with) Plants/(Mit) Pflanzen kartografieren (with her essay “Anlässlich von Hilma af Klints Notizbuch #588: Blumen, Moose, Flechten” [On the Occasion of Hilma af Klint’s Notebook #588: Flowers, Mosses, Lichens]), and Visualität und Abstraktion. Eine Aktualisierung des Figur-Grund-Verhältnisses. Recent work on Hilma af Klint includes “The Medium’s Scriptings. Hilma af Klint and Her Use of Diagrammatic Systems (with Reference to Harry Smith and Others)”, (unpublished).
