Harvey Whitehouse is chair of social anthropology, director of the Centre for the Study of Social Cohesion and professorial fellow of Magdalen College at the University of Oxford.
He was founding director of the Institute of Cognition and Culture at Queen’s University, Belfast. His books include Inside the Cult: Religious Innovation and Transmission in Papua New Guinea; Arguments and Icons: Divergent Modes of Religiosity and Modes of Religiosity: A Cognitive Theory of Religious Transmission.
