Jan Romgard

Jan Romgard, who has a PhD in Asian languages and cultures, is a historian of science with a background in journalism. His writing covers, among other subjects, the 20th-century history of China and Sweden, mainly the Republican Era in China (1911–1949), but also the history of Central Asia. He has written and served as editor for several books about Sweden’s contacts with China, including one on Kina-Gunnar Andersson’s explorations in the country (‘Polarforskaren som strandade i Kina’, 2018) and one on Andersson’s colleague Otto Zdansky (co-author, 2021), and has examined Sweden’s growing interest in foreign policy in the East in the anthology ‘Längtan till Orienten’ (2023).
