Jesper Svenbro

Jesper Svenbro received his doctoral degree from Lund University in 1976 based on his thesis ‘La Parole et le marbre’, published in Swedish in 2020. Svenbro worked for four decades as a researcher at the CNRS in Paris, studying among other subjects the reading of the ancient Greeks. This led to a series of books and articles, including ‘Phrasikleia: Anthropologie de la lecture en Grèce ancienne’ (1988), which has been translated into English, German, Italian and Greek. Alongside this research, Svenbro has published 18 collections of poems in Swedish. Since 2006, he has held chair number 8 at the Swedish Academy.
