Johann Gustav Droysen (1808–1884) was a German historian.

His work on Alexander the Great was the first in a new school of German historical thought in which history can be explained by the impact of highly influential individuals. He studied at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, where he later gave lectures. In 1848 Droysen was elected a member of the Frankfurt parliament.
