Lawrence James is a historian and writer with a special interest in empire.
He studied at the University of York and did a research degree at Merton College, Oxford. Starting his career as a teacher, James became a full-time writer in 1985. His books include Churchill and Empire: Portrait of an Imperialist and Empires in the Sun: The Struggle for the Mastery of Africa.
