Lucy Riall is Professor of the History of Europe in the World at the European University Institute in Florence.
She was previously Professor of History at Birkbeck, University of London and has held visiting positions at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris and the University of California, Berkeley, among others. Her publications include Garibaldi: Invention of a Hero and Under the Volcano: Revolution in a Sicilian Town.
