Martin Worthington

Author

Martin Worthington is Al-Maktoum Associate Professor in Middle Eastern studies at Trinity College Dublin. He first started working on Gilgamesh during a junior research fellowship at St John’s College, Cambridge, and this research interest has stayed with him ever since. He is currently writing a book about how cuneiform signs acquired their readings (and meanings), a topic that alternates wildly between super-dry and super-juicy. He directed the world’s first film in Babylonian (The Poor Man of Nippur, on YouTube), and a Sumerian follow-up is in progress. His recent paper ‘Solving the Starry Symbols of Sargon II’ attracted media interest worldwide.
