Ole Martin Høystad

Ole Martin Høystad is professor emeritus of interdisciplinary cultural studies at the University of South-Eastern Norway. His background is in philosophy and literature; he has also worked with subjects in the field of cultural history, which has resulted in two internationally recognized books: Hjertets kulturhistorie: fra antikken til vår tid (2003), published in English as A History of the Heart, and a cultural history of the soul, Sjelens betydning: en kulturhistorie (2016). Høystad has had a central role in the development of interdisciplinary cultural studies in Norway, using British cultural studies as a role model, and was appointed the first Norwegian professor in this discipline in 1999. Along with Nordic colleagues, he has written an introduction to the field: Nye kulturstudier: en innføring (2008).
