Owen Flanagan is James B. Duke University Professor of Philosophy at Duke University, Durham NC, USA, where he is co-director of The Center for Comparative Philosophy.

His work is in philosophy of mind, moral psychology and comparative philosophy. He is the author of Varieties of Moral Personality (1991), Consciousness Reconsidered (1992) and many other books; his most recent books are The Geography of Morals: Varieties of Moral Possibility (2017) and How to do Things with Emotions: The Morality of Anger and Shame Across Cultures (2021). He has been a Rockefeller Fellow at the National Humanities Center (2014–15) and a Berggruen Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford (2016–17).
