Peter Burke was Professor Emeritus of Cultural History at the University of Cambridge from 1979 to 2004, and he remains a life fellow of Emmanuel College.
He is a fellow of the British Academy, a member of the Academia Europaea, and has received honorary doctorates from the universities of Lund, Copenhagen, Bucharest, Zurich, Brussels and Oviedo. His books include A Social History of Knowledge and What is Cultural History? He is currently writing a social history of ignorance.
