Peter J. Forshaw has a PhD in intellectual history and is associate professor of Western esotericism in the Early Modern period at the Centre for History of Hermetic Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam. He was editor-in-chief of Aries: Journal for the Study of Western Esotericism for ten years, has edited several books, including Lux in Tenebris: the Visual and the Symbolic in Western Esotericism (2016), and is author of a four-volume monograph, The Mage’s Images (2024–25) on the 16th-century alchemist and magus, Christian Cabalist and theosopher Heinrich Khunrath (1560–1605), and Occult: Decoding the Visual Culture of Mysticism, Magic and Divination (2024). He is a council member of the Society for the History of Alchemy and Chemistry.
