Richard J. Evans is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Cambridge, and former provost of Gresham College, London.

He is a fellow of the British Academy, a founding fellow of the Learned Society of Wales and a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. His written work includes books on the Third Reich, In Defence of History and The Pursuit of Power: Europe 1815–1914, a volume in the Penguin History of Europe series.
