Ritchie Robertson

Ritchie Robertson retired in 2021 as Schwarz-Taylor professor of German at the University of Oxford. His books include Kafka: Judaism, Politics and Literature (1985; German trans, 1988); The ‘Jewish Question’ in German Literature 1749–1939 (1999); Mock-Epic Poetry from Pope to Heine (2009); The Enlightenment: the Pursuit of Happiness 1680–1790 (2020); German Political
Tragedy (2024); and translations of works by E T A Hoffmann, Heine, K P Moritz, Kafka and Thomas Mann. He is a fellow of the British Academy.
