Samuel P. Huntington (1927–2008) was an American political scientist. He completed his PhD at Harvard University, where he continued to teach until his retirement. He was appointed Albert J. Weatherhead III University Professor at Harvard’s Center for International Affairs. In 1977 and 1978, he served as an adviser for the White House Coordinator of Security Planning for the National Security Council during President Jimmy Carter’s administration. He authored many publications on international relations and was a co-founder of the journal Foreign Policy.
