Sten Widmalm

Sten Widmalm is a professor of political science at Uppsala University. His research interests are demoratic development, conflict studies, crisis management, decentralisation and corruption in Europe, South Asia and Africa. He is a regular contributor to public debate and writes for the magazines Axess and Fokus. Widmalm is research director of the project ‘Det öppna samhället’ (‘The open society’), financed by the Swedish Psychological Defence Agency and the Swedish Research Council. The project focuses on how polarised social development, open violence and different kinds of extremism affect the core values and attitudes that democracy and the open society are founded on.
