Peer Review process
The peer review process at Bokförlaget Stolpe*
After a text has been approved for publication, and the publication team considers it suitable for the peer review process, the manuscript will be sent out to an expert in the field for review. This may be performed in different ways:
- Single-blind peer review – the author does not know who reviews the text, but the reader knows who the author is.
- Double-blind peer review – neither the author nor the reader knows who the other person is.
- Open peer review – both the author and the reader are aware of who the other person is.
- Peer review after publication – a book that has already been published goes through a peer review process to meet the requirements for open access publication.
The work procedure
- The manuscript is sent for peer review. For an open peer review, the author is also asked to recommend a reader, who is then approved by the publishing house.
- After 8–10 weeks, the reader submits their opinion/recommendation, which is sent on to the author.
- The author submits a written response to the opinion describing how changes will be implemented, or why the author does not agree with the proposed recommendations. Both the opinion and the author’s response are shared with the publication team, which then makes a decision about publication in all channels.
- In some cases, the publishing house may also send separate instructions for how the author can best update the text.
- The author should then reexamine their manuscript, the reader’s opinion and their own written response to ensure that all changes have been made as requested. The author can then resubmit the text to the publishing house.
- After the revised manuscript has been received, the publishing house will accept no further changes until the normal editorial work begins. Any additional corrections should be noted and compiled in a document to be sent to the appointed editor in accordance with the schedule for that particular title.
If pictures or other illustrative materials are necessary to understand the text, the author is responsible for obtaining rights through a Creative Commons (CC-BY) licence prior to including them in the book. Charts and tables created by the author are covered under the basic agreement for the text and thus considered free to use for that purpose.
