Stolpe Stories is a Swedish podcast about literature, art and culture that invites guests each week to talk about current books. Today is the start of the second season.
Last autumn, podcast guests included Daniel Birnbaum, artistic director of Acute Art in London and former director of Moderna Museet in Stockholm, as well as Anita Theorell, author of the book Axel Törneman 1880-1925: A Pioneer in Times of Change.
The podcast host is Svante Helmbaek Tirén, a writer and curator. He notes, “With the podcast, we broadcast books to a larger audience. Hearing researchers and experts themselves talk about their work piques a special kind of curiosity. The books cover a broad range of subjects, but what they all have in common is that people dare to explore in depth and give an account of art, history, religion and literature from new perspectives.”
A new season is now starting. During the spring, we will meet contributors such as the art critic Julia Voss to discuss her biography of the artist Hilma af Klint; the researcher Tora Wall, who has just released a book about Swedish celebrations and customs; and the marine archaeologist Johan Rönnby, who has made dives to explore old sunken ships in order to research the symbolism of ship figureheads.
