The Theresienstadt Diaries

One day, a few years after the war, there was a knock at Pavel Fischl’s door in Prague. Outside stood a woman holding the diaries he had written as a young man in the Theresienstadt ghetto between 1941 and 1943. Before he was deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp, he had asked a friend to look after them, and they were then passed from prisoner to prisoner until they reached the woman at the door. Pavel Fischl survived Auschwitz and eventually moved to Israel. The diaries were discovered decades later by his son Michael and are published here together with a novella about Fischl’s time in Auschwitz and the death march that followed. Together, they form a unique testimony to the Holocaust. *The Diaries of Theresienstadt* comprises three volumes in a slipcase: Fischl’s diaries, the novel *Just Four Months*, and a facsimile of the handwritten diaries.
